Sioux City - David L. Anderson, 62, of Ames, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away March 16, 2013, at Ogden (Iowa) Manor. 


Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux City. Entombment will be in Mausoleum of the Resurrection in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. 

David was born Oct. 31, 1950, in Sioux City, to Richard and Mary Jane (Sheehan) Anderson. David graduated with honors from Bishop Heelan High School in 1968. He attended Creighton University and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1972. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he worked as a social worker in Omaha. Shortly thereafter, he returned to school and received a bachelor of science degree in physics. He was named outstanding student of the class. 

While accomplishing these goals, he met his future wife, Peggy Slater. They were married in 1977 at St. Cecilia's Cathedral in Omaha. They had two children, Jennifer and Steven. 

David completed his master's degree in physics in 1980 at Iowa State University. He moved to Texas and worked for Texas Instruments and Mostek, as a semiconductor engineer, from 1980 to 1985. He moved to Minneapolis to work at Raytheon. 

David enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing baseball and football, and hanging out with this brother, Mike, when he was a youngster. David excelled as a baseball pitcher and a blocking halfback in football. His blocks sometimes resulted in a big gain or a touchdown. 

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Rose (Ryan) Filloon; a son, Steven Edward (Holly) Anderson; grandchildren, Elijah James and Camden Thomas Filloon, and Charlotte Anne Anderson; his mother, Mary Jane Anderson; brothers, Bill (Ronda) Anderson, Michael (Perli) Anderson and Jim (Shelly) Anderson; sisters, Mary Danette "Nettie" (Dennis) Semple, Kathleen (D.A.) Baustian and Theresa Anderson; aunts and uncles, Joseph Sheehan, Phyllis Johnson, Mona Van Meter and June Hebert; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Anderson.
