School Story
I served 2 deployments win Danang and Bien Hoa with Naval Construction Battalion 5 in 1970 and 1971 in various positions including Camp Security and Special Services. After discharge from the Navy I returned to Sioux City and attended Briar Cliff College for 18 months. I also worked at Family Service Center as a residential adolescent counselor. I left Sioux City and moved to Portland Or in the Spring of 1973 and worked at a State Mental hospital in Wilsonville Or. I started Nursing School I the Fall of 74 and finished in 77 with a diploma in nursing and a RN license to practice as an RN. I worked 2 years in medical surgical nursing and then worked as a staff nurse in mental health nursing for 35 years retiring in 2012. I very much enjoyed working in mental heath nursing in a major medical center in Oregon. It gave me a unique perspective on the human condition in all its diversity and fragility. Am very proud to have contributed to the nursing profession and I felt valued and rewarded. Since 2012 my wife and I have enjoyed the retirement (Dona is a retired OT who obtained her Doctorate in 2010 from Creighton University online after working in the field many years. We spend time with friends and family here, Phoenix and Lincoln Neb where my two sisters live. I enjoy reading books, mostly nonfiction and having breakfast with buddies.
